Alert! Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

26th August, 2019

A number of children have been diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease, on island. The index case was diagnosed by the Paediatrician, and additional cases were diagnosed based on clinical presentation and epidemiological linkage.
Members of the Public are encouraged to become aware of the signs and symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease, and to share relevant information with family and friends (the attached information may be useful).
Parents are encouraged to seek medical attention for anyone (child or adult) who is showing signs & symptoms, and to keep affected children away from day-care and affected adults should stay away from work.
NB: For homes already affected by this condition, you can reduce the likelihood of spread by using a solution of household bleach to clean frequently touched areas and to launder clothes and linens. (One (1) table spoon of bleach to 4 cups of water should do the trick)
